OPUS
Series Pilot („Wunschkind“)
Due to dire financial straits, pregnant Jo knows that she and her husband Adam can’t afford to keep her child after she gives birth. But everything changes when OPUS-representative Iris Regenmayer turns up to make them a tempting offer. They are asked to use the company’s Gene Kit XT29G to “genetically refine” and modify their unborn child in line with OPUS’ interests. In return, they will not only receive financial support, but also a scholarship for their offspring’s education.
Jo sees the gene kit as a way to keep her child. She manages to convince Adam to go along with the plan.
But over the course of the pregnancy, their opinions change – both about the genetic modifications and about OPUS.
While Adam increasingly enjoys the social perks of becoming an OPUS member, Jo feels her autonomy and her connection to her daughter being compromised. Her wish for a child starts to give way to a fear that the child she will have might not truly be her own.
